Why choose ethyl ester over triglyceride fish oil?

The vast majority of research showing the beneficial effects of supplemental fish oils on human health has been performed on the ethyl ester form. There is no significant difference in absorption between the two forms of fish oil when they are taken with a fat-containing meal. The ethyl ester form is more concentrated in essential fatty acids (EFAs) by volume; therefore, the ethyl ester form provides significantly more EPA and DHA per serving/capsule.

Effect on fat cells

Omega-3 fatty acids improve the profiles of fat cells associated with obesity and metabolic syndrome.

  • Obesity associated with metabolic syndrome can be associated with unhealthy markers found in the adipose tissue, and is a likely cause of insulin resistance. Improvement of mood disorders

Mood disorders associated with metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance show improvement from omega-3 fatty acids.

  • A meta-analysis that included 28 studies of omega-3 fatty acids for various mood disorders found that EPA was more effective than DHA. The researchers recommended larger controlled trials to confirm their findings.
